We know that we need to use contracts as freelancers. However, do we need to write our own contracts or can we use one that has already been written? What do we have to include? There are contracts for hundreds of thousands of different things, if not more. If you're looking for a contract, there are several things you can do to make your own. You want your contract to be specifically for your business. Here are some things you can do to make your own contracts. Use a Template: It's rather easy to find a template for the kind of contract you need online. This is a contract that has been written which covers basic or generic information. What you will then need to do is to tweak the contract so that it reflects your own business. It has usually been written in a generalized way so that any sort of business could use it. If there are any special rules, conditions, or other things that you want to be addressed in the contract, you need to add them. Personalizing: Of course when you find the template that you want, you will need to personalize it to reflect your name and business. This should be rather easy, as all you have to do is add your name and your business's name so that your clients will be signing a contract with you specifically. Then, you will want to make sure that you read completely through the contract and make sure that your business name and personal name are in the right places. You don't have to add the name of the client you are working with. They will do that themselves when you send it their way to sign. Adding Conditions: Adding conditions to a contract is something you may need to do depending on the nature of your work. This is rather easy as well. All you have to do is add a section at the bottom of the contract stating that the contract is based upon these conditions. Then, you will list and explain the conditions. Make sure that the writing is large enough for the client to read all of the conditions before signing. You can also add that if the conditions of the contract are not met, the contract will be void. Generic Template: You can create a generic template if you are always doing the same things for a client. If your business features a plan or deal, this would be great for a generic template. This you can save so that you don't have to make the changes every time you send this contract to a client. The only thing you will have to change is the date, and any other extra details agreed upon between you and the latest client. The client will change the rest when he or she adds her name and signature to the contract. This will help save you time rather than finding a new contract for each client. Before Sending the Contract: Before you send the contract to your client to sign, you want to make sure of a couple of things. Make sure that you have added the exact explanation of the services agreed upon between you and the client. Make sure that you add the exact explanation of the price agreed upon between you and the client. You also want to make sure that you have addressed extra pricing conditions. Any dates that are important need to be added to the contract as well. If you have agreed with the client that the payment will be received by a certain date, that needs to be reflected in the contract. This is a very easy way to make your own contracts, especially if you are not familiar with the way contracts are written.
