E-Contracts 101: Understanding the Basics
With so many people doing business on the internet these days, e-contracts are very important, especially to the freelancing world. If you are a freelancer, you should know what e-contracts are and how to use them. Whether your business is web designing, writing, or anything else, it's important that you keep up to date with all aspects of your freelancing business. Here is some great information on e-contracts and what you really need to know about them. E-contracts are basically the same thing as a regular contract that you would receive from a client, or that you would send to a client. You don't actually sign the agreement, however, typing your name signifies the intent to sign the paper which is the same thing. They work like a regular contract and detail the specifics of a business or other venture between two companies or people. You are able to detail the specific prices, details, dates and other information on an e-contract the way you would with a typical contract. An e-contract is just as legal as a regular contract, and just because you don’t 'sign' it doesn’t mean that it's real or that you don't have to uphold the terms in the contract. Normally, you can find templates of e-contracts online to create your own, and add the important company info you need. You are able to change things until you have the contract the way you want it. All of your e-contracts should be printed out at least once, and then you should save a copy of the e-contract on your computer and save it in a file specified for all contracts. The rights that are included in an e-contract work the same way that they do with a typical contract. Many people feel that if they do business online as a freelancer, they don't need a contract. That's just not true. Contracts are very important with any business, and you should include them with whatever job you do. This way, you can protect yourself and the client from later disputes or contracts. You can find a template for an e-contract online and add your own changes so that it will reflect the conditions of your business. You are able to easily change conditions, clauses and so forth depending upon which client will be receiving the contract to sign. If a client sends you an e-contract to sign, read every single line of text. Just like a regular contract, it's important to know what you are signing. One of the typical e-contracts that freelancers sign is a non disclosure agreement or NDA. This basically states that you will not tell anyone about the information you learn when you are doing a job for a client. For example, if you are designing his or her website or logos, you will have inside information about the company he or she is starting. You just agree to keep this information confidential. E-contracts are an important part of the freelancing business world, and knowing what they are is important as well.
